Dislocated Worker

Dislocated Worker services are provided by Rock Valley College through a contract with Rock River Training Corporation. Workforce Investment Act funding for the Dislocated Worker Program is authorized by the Boone and Winnebago Counties Workforce Investment Board.

Services available to eligible individuals include the following:

Career Counseling - Participants are assigned a counselor to help them with their assessment and career planning.

Certificate & AAS Degree Programs - Specific certificate and degree programs are periodically approved by the Boone and Winnebago Counties Workforce Investment Board and are available to WIA-eligible individuals. Contact the Dislocated Worker Program for more information.

Computer Classes - Short-term basic, intermediate, and advanced computer classes covering keyboarding, Internet, and various types of software applications are available.

GED Preparation and Basic Skills Classes - Four-week classes are available to individuals needing help to improve their math and reading and reading scores.

Job Search Workshops - Week-long, half-day workshops covering everything you need to know about searching for jobs in today's highly competitive job market.

On-The-Job Training - The Dislocated Worker Program offers employers incentives to hire and train dislocated workers.

Resume Service - Assistance in writing and up-to-date resume is provided to job seekers.

Seminars - Generally held twice each month and covers various subjects of interest to job seekers.

Speakers Bureau - Volunteers from local area businesses are available to speak to groups of dislocated workers, answer questions, and sometimes accept resumes.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Dislocated Worker Program you must..

  • be laid off or terminated from your job. (Quitting a job does not qualify) or,
  • have received written notice of an impending layoff or termination.
  • be authorized to work in the United States. (Proof of citizenship, birth certificate,
  • passport, and/or alien registration card will be required)
  • be registered with Selective Service. (Required for males born January 1, 1960 or later, and male registered aliens having entered the United States before their 26th birthday)

You may be eligible for the Dislocated Worker Program if you have been self-employed but are now unemployed and have documented proof of the existence of the business and the loss of the business. (Tax records may be requested.)

Other criteria are used in conjunction with the above to determine eligibility. Occupational and industrial statistics as put fort by the State of Illinois play a key role in the eligibility determination process.
